You do not need a ten-step routine for healthy skin. Most dermatology advice comes down to three habits done consistently.
1. Cleanse
Wash your face once or twice a day with a gentle cleanser that suits your skin. Very hot water and harsh scrubs can strip the skin and cause irritation. If you wear sunscreen or makeup, an evening cleanse removes it.
2. Moisturise
A moisturiser helps your skin hold water and supports its protective barrier. Oily skin often does well with a light gel or lotion; dry skin usually prefers a richer cream. “Non-comedogenic” on the label means a product is formulated not to clog pores.
3. Protect
Daily sunscreen is the most evidence-backed step for preventing premature ageing and reducing skin-cancer risk. Choose broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply when you are outdoors.
Adding more
If you want to target a concern, add one product at a time and give it several weeks. Patch-test new products on a small area first, and stop using anything that burns or causes a rash.
When to see a doctor
Persistent acne, painful cysts, new or changing moles, or a rash that does not clear up should be looked at by a dermatologist. This article is general information and not medical advice.
